Sharon Kaye (Fischer) Henning, 77, of Farmersburg, died Sunday, March 20, 2022, at her home. Sharon was born Feb. 24, 1945, to Grant and Oceania (Eylers) Fischer at Guttenberg. Sharon was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Garnavillo. She graduated from Garnavillo Community High School in 1963 and graduated from Gates Business College in Waterloo in 1964. Sharon then worked as a bookkeeper at Matt Parrott & Sons Printing Co. in Waterloo for four years. 

 

Sharon was united in marriage to Vernon Henry Henning on Sept. 20, 1969, and to this union three children were born. Sharon and Vernon were dairy farmers and Sharon took charge of feeding and raising many baby calves. Sharon worked as a secretary at Huinker Chevrolet in Monona for one year and was a postal clerk at the Monona Post Office for 28 years. She also worked part time at the Elkader and McGregor USPS offices. After her retirement from the USPS, Sharon worked part time as a paraprofessional at the MFL MarMac schools for three years. She was a member of the ladies 500 club, a member of the Thursday Study Club and the Mississippi Red Hats and a member of the American Legion Aux. Sharon enjoyed baking for her family, taking care of her flowers and going to garage sales. Most of all, she enjoyed her precious time spent with her grandchildren. 

 

Sharon is survived by her daughter, Diane (Kyle) Stangeland of Monona, and son, Brian (Dawn) of Walford; four grandchildren, Kellie (Jesse) Ayala and Eric Walz and Cooper and Paisley Henning; step-granddaughter, Ashley (Vince) Vance; step-great-grandchildren, Lilly, Landen, Lane and Violet; sister, Ruth James of Dubuque; and brother, Robert Fischer of Altoona.

 

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon, in 2015; her stillborn son in 1971; her parents; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Arno and Erma Henning; one sister-in-law, Judiene Fischer; and brothers-in-laws, Dennis James, Robert Wacker and L’Dean Henkes.

 

Visitation was held on March 24, at St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg. Funeral service was on March 25, at St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg, with Pastor Jeremy Wolfe as the officiant.

 

Burial followed at the Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery, Farmersburg.

 

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Monona is assisting the family with arrangements.
