Susan “Susie” Lynn Weger, 72, of Elkader, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2022, at the Elkader Care Center in Elkader. She was born on Aug. 30, 1949, in Oelwein, the daughter of Donald and Luella (Hoskyn) Weger. Susie grew up on the Weger family farm northwest of Strawberry Point, where she enjoyed riding her horse through the pastures and woods in the neighborhood. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Sebald Lutheran Church and it was there she began her Christian faith journey. Susie graduated from Starmont High School in 1967. She attended St. Luke’s School of Nursing, worked as a dietary aid at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home and eventually moved to Portland, Ore.

Susie worked at Columbia Sportswear in Portland. Due to poor health, she returned to Iowa in 2006. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Susie had a special interest in Civil War history, taking several trips to Civil War battlegrounds and historic sites. She enjoyed reading and watching TV. The evenings she spent watching TV with her nephew, Jeff Knehans, were special times for her.

Survivors include her sister, Mary (Roger) Knehans of Strawberry Point; her brother, Mike (Donna) Weger of Clarkston, Wash.; and five nieces and nephews, Jeff (Lisa Deppe) Knehans of Elkader, Marissa (Scott) Nordschow of Decorah, Mick Knehans of Buffalo, N.Y., Michelle (Will) Turner of Seattle, Wash., and Ellen (Jason) Romesburg of Spokane, Wash.
