The Central girls track and field team competed at the UIC indoor conference meet at Luther College on March 25, and in the words of coach Martha Bauder, the team was “very competitive,” achieving 11 total personal records and raising the confidence level as the season gets underway.

The Warriors won four events at the meet, starting with Brandy Beatty’s victory in the 55-meter hurdles, finishing in a time of 9.64. Teammate Madylen Gregerson finished in 11 with a personal record time of 11.31.

In the 55-meter dash, Grace Kuehl ran a personal record 8.02 to finish third and Tessa Sylvester finished seventh in 8.38.

Kaitlyn Wiley added another third place finish in the 200 meter, running the race in 29.42, and Brooklyn Amsden finished 12th with a personal record time of 33.63.

The Warriors also had two personal records in the 400, with a second place finish from Hannah Asche in 1:03.2, while Eva Embretson ran a 1:14.96 to cross the finish line 10th.

Taylor Moser and Alexis Theise, who finished fourth and eighth, respectively, achieved two more personal records in the 800.

In the 1500, the Warriors sent out Coral Rork, who came in sixth, and Katelyn Scherf, who was right behind in seventh.

Central performed best in the medley and relay events, winning three events. Beatty, Tori Sylvester, Delaney Scherf and Jaydin Dettman took the distance medley in a time of 4:38.9, and the Warriors also won the 4x200 with Tori Sylvester, Kuehl, Haley Mueller and Asche finishing in a time of 1:55.5. Fellow team members Tessa Sylvester, Kimberly Suhr, Caitlyn Druecker and Gregerson finished in eighth. The final victory came in the 4x400, with Dettman, Scherf, Wiley and Asche crossing the line in 4:23.4. The squad of Gracie Cummer, Kuehl, Mueller and Embretson placed fifth.

The team achieved a second place finish in the shuttle relay, with Lexi Loan, Cummer, Wiley and Beatty finishing in 37.6. Additionally, Central was fifth in the 4x800, with Keeley Curran, Coral Rork, Aspen Rork and Katelyn Scherf crossing in 13:18.9.

In the field events, Aly Feickert placed third in the shot put with a distance of 27’3 3/4”, followed by Delaney Scherf in fourth with a distance of 27’1 3/4”. Loan had good showings in the high jump and long jump, finishing second in both events. Cummer also competed in both, finishing eighth in the high jump and 10th in the long jump.

“It’s just a nice chance to compete indoors against familiar rivals with the goal of just testing out how the first month of the season is going, to get a chance to get some actual races and field events in without having to worry about weather, and to get back into the competitive part of track and field,” Bauder said.

The Warriors’ next meet is March 31, at West Delaware High School.
