Sound healing uses different vibrations to help ease the mind, body and spirit. The technique works on two principles – different emotions vibrate at different levels, and blocked, or unexpressed emotions, are the main source of "dis-ease" in the body.

Basic elementary science classes taught us that the human body is 75-percent water, which is a great conductor for vibrations. Sound healers use instruments, such as tuning forks, Tibetan and crystal bowls, gongs and chimes that vibrate at specific frequencies when struck and correspond to specific emotions.

Sound Healer

Lisa Hefel of Holy Cross has been a sound practitioner since 2015. She began her career at the Center of I Am in Dubuque as a facilitator for Individual Sound Healing sessions for others, working with various singing bowls, gongs and tuning forks. Her services are currently available at Divine Current Wellness, located at 531 South First and Schiller Sreet in Guttenberg.

She was a dedicated committee member and co-creator of The Woven Path Four-Day Holistic Retreat in Rochelle, Ill., and was a helper at her first gathering of The Initiation of the Angels Event. She also attended the Children of the Light Four-Day Conference in Milwaukee, Wis. She received the attunements to the Eight Seals of the Shekinah/Divine Feminine under the direction of theta healers, Stephanie L. and Robbie Nicolai.

Under the leadership and teachings of Dr. Joseph Crane, Lisa completed the Divine Masculine Class and received those nine attunements, and was taught how to use tuning forks and essential oils on the body.

"I became interested in sound healing following my cancer diagnosis in 2013," Lisa told The Press. "I had completed my chemotherapy and wanted to regain my health. It took me another year to redirect the course of my life in a more positive direction through sound healing."

Lisa uses an Amethyst Bio-Mat during sound healing sessions. "The Biomat uses a combination of fabrics and amethyst stones to generate far infrared rays, which is then transferred to the body as heat," she explained. "Far infrared rays benefit the muscles on the surface of the body, and cells and tissues in the deepest parts of the body.  The warm stimulating waves temporarily increase circulation relieving pain and discomfort."

The sound healer uses tuning forks, essential oils and other instruments designed to bring the body back into balance – leaving you feeling soothed and clear-minded. "I start each session asking the client to set an intention for their personal wellness journey, and set the mood with relaxing music," she described. "I move on using a variety of tuning forks that work with your DNA and essential oils. It all works together."

Lisa uses her intuition to choose her instruments. "Once the tuning is complete I shut off the relaxing music and move on to my instruments. I use crystal and Tibetan bowls to create a frequency to help you release and relax, and a suspended gong at the back of the head so the vibration can flow from head to toe to release negative energy," she added.

Holistic and Eastern medicine practitioners believe the human body, just like the entire universe, is made up of the five elements — earth, water, fire, air and space. "I use the Koshi Wind chimes to omit frequencies that are in alignment with your body's natural composition, creating further harmony and ease in the body." Lisa commented.

Clients experience deep healing during sound therapy as sound vibrations open, clear, and balance their chakras and release stuck energy. "I use an ocean drum that creates the sound of water, a buffalo drum and different rattles to balance a client's chakras. Each experience is different and specific to individual needs," she said.

Sound bath

Divine Current Wellness hosts group Sound Baths one or two times a month correlating with moon phases and the Earth's equinox. "A sound bath is a perfect opportunity to experience sound healing with a group of friends. The healing modality is a wonderful way to bring harmony to your body. You need to be as open as you can to allow the frequencies to heal. You need to be ready for a change," she concluded with a smile.

Sound Healing sessions are available at Divine Current Wellness two to three Tuesdays a month at 5 p.m. and one to two Saturdays a month with two sessions available at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Appointments need to be scheduled 24 hours in advance. Call or text 563.880.7423 or book an appointment online at www.divinecurrentwellness.com.
