Despite being down several key athletes, the MFL MarMac girls track and field team still made a strong showing at the May 5 Upper Iowa Conference meet in Postville.
The Bulldogs found the most success in the relays, where they placed sixth in both the 4x100 and 800 sprint medley. Ava Lindner, Kaylee Walch, Maria Stavroplus and Melanie Ruff made up the four legs in each.
The team’s 4x200 squad of Lindner, Evelyn Ruff, Walch and Melanie Ruff finished seventh.
In the individual running events, Melanie Ruff’s seventh place effort in the 100 meter dash was MFL MarMac’s top result. Jordyn Jones was 15th in the event.
Walch and Evelyn Ruff went 11th and 12th, respectively, in the 200, while Lindner crossed the line eighth in the 400.
The field events were led by Stavroplus, whose height of 4 feet, 2 inches tied her for fifth in the high jump. Jones threw her way to 10th in the discus and 11th in the shot put.
Next up for MFL MarMac is the Class 2A state qualifying meet, which will be held at Osage on Thursday, May 12.
