Dr. Andrew C. Smith

Guttenberg Municipal Hospital & Clinics has announced the upcoming retirement of Andrew C. Smith, M.D., in June of 2022. 

Dr. Smith has practiced medicine here in Guttenberg his entire career, spanning 39 years. "He has been a beloved member of the hospital staff and community throughout his tenure here and will be greatly missed by all," said a GMHC spokesperson.

The community will have an opportunity to bid him farewell at an open house for the public on May 26, from 2-4 p.m. in the Education Center at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital & Clinics. 

Dr. Smith graduated from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1980. He completed a residency at Black Hawk Area Family Practice in Waterloo. Dr. Smith joined Family Medicine Associates, PC in 1983, and ultimately GMHC.  He is a diplomat in the American Academy of Family Physicians and a member of the Affiliate Faculty of the University of Iowa College of Medicine. He is a past Medical Director at the Edgewood Convalescent Home and G & G (Imagine the Possibilities) Living Centers. His outside interests include boating, gardening, golfing, cross-country skiing and micro-brewing.
