It was a rough start to the season for the Clayton Ridge-Central baseball team, which lost their season opener 10-0 to New Hampton.

The War Eagle bats were quiet, managing three hits in 22 plate appearances. Those three hits came on singles from Drake Ostrander, Braxton Bormann and Max Nuehring. Ostrander also stole one base.

The team’s fielding percentage was .931 and players committed just two errors, but unfortunately  allowed eight stolen bases, which kept the Chickasaws moving around the bases.

Caleb Helle started on the mound, giving up four hits, two walks, three hit batters and seven earned runs over 3.1 innings. He struck out five batters. Relief pitchers Ostrander and Kurt Ross totaled 2.1 innings, allowing no hits but five walks combined.

The War Eagles have a heavy slate of games coming up, according to the schedule, starting with a home game on May 23 versus Waukon. They have a double-header at South Winneshiek on May 24, then wrap up the week up with another double-header on May 26, against Postville.
