Robert P. Junk
Robert P. Junk, 84, of Denver, Colo. died peacefully in his sleep Sunday, May 15, 2022.
Funeral services were May 26, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Lakewood, Colo.
He will be laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver at a later date.
Bob was born July 21, 1937, to Serenus and Eugenia (Berns) Junk in Guttenberg. His childhood was filled with adventures on the Mississippi River, some of which were true and some of which were borrowed from Mark Twain.
He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and Loras College before graduating from the University of Iowa with a degree in business. Bob was drafted into the Army in 1959. He was stationed in Aschaffenburg, Germany for two years where he developed a love of travel. Following his service, he continued to travel Europe as a distributor of Neoplan double decker buses.
He met his wife Mary in Milwaukee, Wis., where he worked in banking. They married in the middle of the great blizzard of 1968, and they headed west for a ski honeymoon in Colorado and trip to Las Vegas.
Bob and Mary moved to Denver in 1972 where he joined Colorado National Bank before becoming an executive recruiter, then known as a Head Hunter, in the banking industry. Bob continued to ski in the same Head 360s and leather boots he wore in 1967. Bob enjoyed playing tennis and worked at golf.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Angela (Curtis) Strous; grandson, Eli; sister, Mary (Richard) Newbern, and niece and nephews, Bryn, Christopher, and Adam.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jim.
