The MFL MarMac softball team earned its first two victories of the season June 1, with back-to-back shutouts over conference foe Postville.

The Bulldogs won the first game of the doubleheader 13-0, behind a 17-strikeout performance by senior pitcher Lauren Haberichter. They followed it up with a 10-0 total in game two, highlighted by a six-run fifth inning.

Unfortunately, the offense went cold in the team’s next game—a 13-1 loss at Hudson on June 2. This time, it was the Pirates who benefitted from the big inning, pushing across six runs in both the second and third. Hudson had seven hits overall; two batters walked, one was hit by a pitch and another four reached on errors.

MFL MarMac was back in action June 3, in a tournament at North Fayette Valley. There, the team suffered a 13-1 loss to Osage, but defeated Oelwein 8-6. The two-day tournament was trimmed to just one due to rain on Saturday, however.

This week, the Bulldogs were slated to host Turkey Valley for two games on June 6, before playing a doubleheader at West Central on June 8. The week will conclude June 10 with a home twin bill versus Midland.
