Riverdale ends Seneca’s baseball season

Visiting Riverdale defeated Seneca 4-2 in a WIAA Division 4 Regional final baseball game on Wednesday, June 1.

Top-seeded Seneca fired up the offense in the first inning, when Ashton Swanson singled on a 3-0 count, scoring one run.

Third-seeded Riverdale knotted the game up at one in the top of the third inning. Zeke C. singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run.

Riverdale pulled away for good with one run in the fourth inning. In the fourth, Kadin Wallin induced Kacy L. to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.

After Riverdale scored one run in the top of the seventh, the Royals answered with one of their own. Riverdale scored when Carson R. singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Seneca then answered when Evan Payne singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

Dylan K. got the win for Riverdale. The bulldog went seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out seven.

Wallin took the loss for Seneca. Wallin allowed three hits and two runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out four.

Seneca tallied six hits on the day. Payne and Briar Wall each had 2 hits to lead Seneca. 

Seneca was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Payne had the most chances in the field with seven.

Seneca finished with a 17-6 overall record. The Royals won the Ridge and Valley Conference at 12-2.
