Primary election results for Clayton County

On Tuesday, June 7, registered Democrats and Republicans in Clayton County voted in the primary election to choose their party's nominees for the general election in November.
Voters in a primary election must register as a Democrat or Republican in order to choose their respective party's candidates. In Clayton County, there were 1,363 Republicans and 660 Democrats who went to the polls, for a total of 2,023 voters.
Republican ballot
The only contested GOP race at the county level was three candidates vying for two vacant seats on the Clayton County Board of Supervisors. Doug Reimer was the top vote-getter with 945, followed by Steve Doeppke 671 and Adam Meyer 595.
County Attorney Zach Herrmann, County Recorder Sue Meyer and County Treasurer Linda Zuercher were running unopposed on the Republican ticket. All are incumbents. Herrmann received 1,225 votes, Meyer had 1,270 and Zuercher 1,278.
Incumbent Ann Osmundson was running unopposed on the Republican ticket for State Representative for District 64 and received 1,240 votes in the county.
Democratic ballot
Lester Simons, who received 531 votes, was the lone Democratic candidate for a seat on the Clayton County Board of Supervisors.
No Democrats filed for the office of County Attorney, County Recorder and County Treasurer.
No Democratic candidates filed for State Representative for District 64.

In the primary race for U.S. Senator from Iowa, Republican voters chose Charles Grassley over Jim Carlin. Clayton County voters followed the state trend, choosing Grassley with 1,032 votes to Carlin's 299.
Iowa Democrats chose Michael Franken as their candidate to face Grassley in the general election. Clayton County voters also preferred Franken (386 votes) over Abby Finkenauer (262) and Glenn Hurst (10).
In the race for U.S. House of Representatives, District 2, Republican Ashley Hinson and Democrat Liz Mathis ran unopposed on the primary ballot.
