William “Bill” Miller, 80, (formerly of Guttenberg) passed away peacefully at his home in Prescott, Ariz. on Monday, April 11, 2022.

Bill was born July 16, 1941, the son of Lawrence “G.I. Joe” and Cleva (Clinton) Miller, in McGregor.

He graduated from Garnavillo High School in 1959. He then served in the United States Army for 2 years in Germany and Fort Bragg, N.C. On Dec. 27, 1962, he was united in marriage to April Loetz in McGregor. Bill and April moved to Moline, Ill. where he worked for the Rock Island Railroad until it went out of business in 1979. In 1980 the family moved to Guttenberg where he co-owned and operated Miller’s Grocery Store along Highway 52. Bill served as a volunteer Guttenberg firefighter and President of the City Chamber of Commerce during this time. In 1985 Bill and April moved to Prescott, Ariz. where he was employed by Embry Riddle Aeronautical University until his retirement in 2004.

During his lifetime he enjoyed flying (private, instrument, commercial and instructor licenses), hunting, fishing, geology and exploring the outdoors in Arizona. Bill enjoyed taking family and friends hiking and exploring the Arizona deserts and mountains when they visited.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Jodean (Mike) Bown of Urbandale; two sons, Eric (Lanette) Miller of Indian Mound, Tenn., Scott (Stephanie) Miller of Elkader; four grandchildren, Ryan (Ashley) Miller of Clarksville, Tenn., Allison (Jared) Lancaster of Indian Mound, Tenn., Robby Bown of Denver, Colo. and Kelsey Bown of Des Moines; two step grandchildren, Macie Winters and Micah Hughes of Elkader; four great-grandchildren; Mallory and Levi Walker of Indian Mound, Tenn., Lucas and Brooksie Miller of Clarksville, Tenn.; and two step great-grandchildren, Adalyn and Adrian Lancaster of Indian Mound, Tenn.; his aunt, Ivanelle Stone of Guttenberg; his niece, Jamie (Jim) Burgin of Edgewood; and his longtime friend, Linda Cooley, of Kansas City, Mo.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Joe and Cleva Miller; his brother, Larry Dean Miller; his sister-in-law, Charlene Harbaugh and his wife of 44 years, April Miller.
