Fire damages Wauzeka home
By Correne Martin
No one was injured in a house fire in Wauzeka the afternoon of Friday, June 10.
According to Wauzeka Fire Chief Nick Zeeh, the home of Rob Mara and Christa Pitzer, at 503 E. Main St., was damaged severely in the blaze that broke out just before 2:30 p.m.
Mara and his brother happened to be in the basement when the fire broke out and they heard the smoke alarms going off. They were both able to evacuate the home with no injuries, Zeeh noted.
Wauzeka Fire was assisted by Boscobel Fire Friday. Both had three trucks on the scene, including a Boscobel ladder truck, which went up but wasn’t needed. They were at the home for about two hours total.
Zeeh said an initial investigation leads him to believe the fire originated in an upstairs bedroom near a closet.
“That’s where the damage was pretty severe. There was considerable smoke and water damage on the main floor,” he stated. “The guys made a heck of an attack on [the fire] and knocked it down.”
Crawford County Emergency Management has been in contact with the family to tend to their needs at this time.
