On Sunday, June 12, at 12:07 a.m., Prairie du Chien Police Officers were made aware of a vehicle pursuit that was initiated by a Crawford County Sheriff’s Department deputy on Highway 27, east of the city. The sheriff’s deputy terminated the pursuit because he lost sight of the suspect vehicle, though a direction of travel and description of the suspect vehicle was provided to city police.

A short time later, Prairie du Chien Police officers observed the suspect vehicle heading west on Limery Road, being operated at a high rate of speed, according to a news release from Chief Kyle Teynor. The vehicle went south on Highway 35 at Limery and proceeded to enter the city of Prairie du Chien.

The officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the suspect, later identified as James Alan Jones, 38, of Black River Falls, refused to stop for the squad car’s lights and sirens, Teynor said.

The suspect vehicle then increased its speed and passed slower moving traffic. The vehicle continued south on Marquette Road, and Jones eventually lost control at the Iowa Street roundabout, causing a single vehicle crash.

Jones was transported to Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien and released a short time later. He complained of finger pain. He was arrested for knowingly fleeing an officer and transported to the Crawford County Jail, Teynor said.
