Kay Ellen Knospe, 83, of Elkader, died Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at Mercy One Medical Center in Elkader. She was born Dec. 11, 1938, in Guttenberg, to Marvin and Juanita (Blume) Morarend. Kay graduated from Guttenberg High School with the Class of 1956.

 

She was united in marriage to Keith Fredrick Knospe on Nov. 7, 1956, at St. John Lutheran Church in Guttenberg. Six children were born to this union.

 

Kay enjoyed puzzles, feeding her birds and listening to her scanner. She was the secretary for K Construction, Inc. for 46 years, until retiring in 2019.

 

She is survived by her children, Kendall (Evelyn) Knospe of St. Olaf, Karlotta (Christopher) Andrews of Dubuque, Karl (Jennifer Cowsert) Knospe of Elkader and Kimberly (Alan) Philbrook of Elgin; 20 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Joyce (Jerry) Byers; and many friends.

 

Kay was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2008; two daughters, Kathleen O’Shea in 1999 and Kristine Stluka in 2003; one grandchild, Darren Knospe in 2009; and two brothers, Marcus and Charles Morarend.

 

Visitation was June 20 at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Elkader. Funeral service was June 21, at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Elkader. Interment was at East Side Cemetery in Elkader.

 

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elkader is assisting the family.
