City awarded $440,000 for trail connection

The City of Guttenberg was recently awarded a $440,000 grant from the Iowa Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP).
The money will be used for a trail connection between the north end of the levee river walk near Bussey Lake to Big Springs Park and the Mississippi River Trail.
The grant application was written by City Manager Denise Schneider and will be administrated through the Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission. "Matching funds will come from the city and any other grants we may get for the project," said Schneider.
This project forms Segment #4 of the City of Guttenberg Trail System Master Plan. This segment consists of the construction of a ramp off the levee river walk, a crossing at the railroad tracks and will include a multi-use trail for approximately 1,900 feet along the Great River Road to Big Springs Park.
