Thomas E. Becwar, 63, died of pneumonia on Friday, July 15, 2022, at Upland Hills Health Hospital in Dodgeville.

Tom was born Dec. 12, 1958, in Prairie du Chien, to Fred and Florence Becwar. Tom contracted German measles at the very early age of 3 months and consequently followed with meningitis. As a result, he suffered with severe developmental disabilities and seizures that required professional care and supervision throughout the rest of his life, beginning at the age of 2. He resided primarily at Central Colony in Madison, for 36 years, and then at adult care homes in Prairie du Chien and Dodgeville since 1996. He has been a resident at Sunnyside West in Dodgeville for the past seven years.

He is survived by his loving mother, Florence Becwar; sisters, Luanne (Brian) Alme, Nancy (Ed) Wengren, Debbie Becwar, Jane (Scott) Hipke; brothers, John, Mike, and Joe Becwar; nieces Britne (Sandy Shelton) Salm and Ann Wengren;  and nephews Adam and Ethan (Jackie) Salm, Tim (Kristie) Wengren, Tom Wengren, Nate and Zach Becwar.

The Becwar family would like to extend their deepest gratitude and appreciation to all of his exceptional caregivers throughout his life, especially the caring and loving staff at Sunnyside West. They supported Tom tremendously over the past several years and with their presence in many of the last hours of his life. We also want to thank Dr. Ingrid Berg and the nursing staff at Upland Hills for their care and compassion from his time of admission on Monday, July 11, until his passing on Thursday, July 14.

A Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Prairie du Chien, with a one-hour visitation before Mass at the church on Wednesday. Monsignor Charles Stoetzel will be the Celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Prairie du Chien. Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service is helping the family with the arrangements.
