Lyle Duane Sargent, 82, of Guttenberg, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, July 15, 2022.

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg where the family will receive friends from 3 – 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 20. Visitation will continue prior to funeral services at 9 a.m., at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg.

Funeral services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg at 10 a.m., on Thursday, July 21. 

Burial will follow at the Guttenberg City Cemetery.

Lyle was born on Sept. 15, 1939, in rural Strawberry Point, son of Elwin and Grace (Chappell) Sargent. Lyle’s parents farmed in the Strawberry Point, Garnavillo, Elkader, and Guttenberg areas. Lyle made friends wherever he lived. Lyle graduated from Elkader High School.

Lyle married Alberta Meisner on Sept. 2, 1961, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg.

Lyle worked at Muters/Jensen Speaker Manufacturing for six years. He left Muters to work at John Deere Dubuque Works for 31 years. After retiring from John Deere, Lyle worked for Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home for over 20 years. Lyle was a big Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan. He attended many games with family and friends. Lyle loved fishing and proudly gave his great-grandson his first boat ride!

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Dennis Sargent; daughter, Sara Noack; grandchildren, Matthew Noack, Mark (Abby) Noack, Grace (Cory) Dennis; great-grandson, Graham Lyle Noack; sister, Mary Carrier; brother-in-law, Ron (Chris) Hyde, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Also his honorary grandchildren, Brittany Bolsinger Saltz, Ryan Lucas, Antonio and Ke’Andre Armstrong, Elly Schroeder and Katie Fassbinder Winch.

Lyle was preceded in death by his wife; parents; mother-in-law, Florence Leonard; in-laws, Robert Carrier, Larry and Mardell Meisner, Kathyrn Kregel Borcherding, Loren Kregel, Laura and Dave Cullen.
