Alice Lavonne (Gordon) Bareis passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, in her home in Marquette. She was born April 22, 1933, to Milton and Anna (Boese) Gordon in West Union. She attended Postville High School until she married Eugene Trudo on Jan. 11, 1949, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Clermont. This union produced five sons, Mike, Mark, Rick, Ronn and Dan. After their divorce, Alice united in marriage to Arthur Baries of Postville on May 12, 1972, at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Alice was a devoted wife and mother, working to raise five boys and helping with the dairy farm chores, while immaculately dressing for any occasion. Throughout her life, she worked as a nurse at the General Hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wis., aid at Wylusing Academy in Prairie du Chien, Wis., and an independent caregiver for home health for over 10 years. Alice loved her huge flower gardens, restoring homes, cooking/canning, bargain hunting, science, medicine and her cat Fi Fi. Alice lived through hard times, and as she built success in her own life, she understood the hardness of her past and welcomed the needy into her circle of friendship. Alice was instrumental in keeping the family tribe bonded with an open door, warm kitchen and family reunions.

Alice is survived by her five sons: Eugene Michael (Kate) Trudo of McGregor, Mark Anthony Trudo of Punta Gorda, Fla., Rick E. (Brenda) Trudo of Harpers Ferry, Ronn Scott (Sherry) Trudo of Brownsville, Minn., and Danny Lee (Maryanne) Trudo of McGregor; eight grandchildren, Troy (Missy) Trudo, Travis McCulloch, Bobbi Jo Reames, Ely Trudo, Jessica Trudo, Marissa Lechtenburg, Zachery Trudo and Jacob Trudo; six great-grandchildren, Braden, Reanna, Broderick and Trenton Reames and Nina and Jack Crotty; two great-great-grandchildren; and her beloved cat Fi Fi.

Alice is preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Anna; husband Arthur Bareis; siblings, Lola Heins, Charlotte Gifford, Duane Gordon, Donald Gordon, Janet Yauslin, Sharon Nelson, Jean Szabo and Nancy Dilley; grandchildren, Hallie Scarff and Regan Reames; and nephews, Jerry Weiss and Doug Weiss.

Memorial service will be held on Friday, Aug. 5, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Thornburg-Grau Furneral Home in McGregor, with gravesite tribute on Saturday, Aug. 6, at 11 a.m., at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, McGregor.
