The Crawford County Health Department has announced that the county is now experiencing a high COVID-19 community level. This means residents should take increased precautions against COVID-19, including wearing a well-fitting mask or respirator in public indoor settings. During a high Covid community level, there is the potential for local health care systems to become overwhelmed due to increased levels of severe disease.

To prevent against severe cases that can strain area hospitals, the health department encourages residents to take the following steps.

•Wear a mask in public indoor settings.

Everyone, regardless of vaccination status, should wear a mask and practice social distancing.

•Get your Covid vaccine or booster dose, if eligible.

Getting vaccinated and staying up-to-date with Covid vaccines is the most effective way to prevent severe health outcomes associated with Covid.

•Test for Covid if you develop symptoms or have been exposed.

Testing early and isolating when positive, prevents further spread of the virus to others.

•Stay home when you feel sick or test positive for COVID-19.

Seek treatment if you are at high risk or experiencing severe illness. Isolate for at least five days after symptoms start. For more information about isolation and quarantine recommendations, call the health department at 326-0229 or visit crawfordcountywi.org/covid-19.

Testing for COVID-19 is widely available in Crawford County. Know the resources and use them if you or someone you know shows Covid symptoms.

•Local health care facilities and pharmacies continue to test. Call to schedule an appointment.

•Community testing is available weekly at the Gays Mills Commerce Center on Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m.

•Home tests are available for purchase and at no cost. Free home tests are available at the health department in Prairie du Chien or at the village office in Gays Mills. Please only pick-up at these locations if you are healthy.

Stay aware of the COVID-19 activity in the community and act accordingly. To follow the weekly COVID-19 community levels on the DHS COVID-19 website, go to: dhs.wisconsin.gov/covid-19/data.htm#summary or the Crawford County Health Department website or Facebook page.
