With shock and great grief we announce the death of David “Dave” Lee Wachendorf, 58, on Friday, Aug. 12, 2022, after an accidental fire in his home that ultimately took his life.

A celebration of Dave’s life will be announced and held for his family and friends at a later time.

Dave was born in Guttenberg, on Nov. 10, 1963, the son of Roy and Hedda Wachendorf.

Dave started farming at a young age until he was 33 years old and then learned to fabricate granite countertops for 25 years.

Dave loved anything outdoors from arrowhead, mushroom and deer hunting to fishing or helping his family with farm work. You would never catch him in anything other than hiking boots, steel toed boots or sandals with socks; never tennis shoes. He was a quick witted smart ass and could cook up an excellent meal with whatever was in the kitchen or ripe from the garden. He also enjoyed getting creative when sending a 20+ lb. watermelon to his youngest daughter in the mail.

He is survived by two daughters, Taylor and Faith; one adopted daughter, Brim “Kendra”; two grandchildren, Oakley and Corbin; parents; brothers, Jack and Scott; sisters, Heidi, Deb and Monica and many friends and relatives.

Dave was preceded in death by his brother, Doug; nephew, Nick; grandparents; aunts; uncles and cousins.

Condolences may be sent to Taylor Bigbee, 1737 B. Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.
