Eugene David “Gene” Kirschbaum, 72, of Glen Haven, passed away Friday morning, Sept. 9, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on Nov. 10, 1949, in Lancaster, the son of Norbert and Erma (Hill) Kirschbaum. Gene graduated from Cassville High School where he was a proud recipient of the National FFA Star Farmer award. His passions in life were farming, ranching, and being in the great outdoors. When he began dairy farming, he also established the Bar Diamond K Tack Shop. He was the ranch foreman at the Kickapoo Canyon Ranch in Wauzeka. Not afraid of adventure, he moved to Cody, WY, where he was employed at the T E Ranch which was established by Buffalo Bill Cody. He later worked at the Pitchfork Ranch in Meeteetse, WY, until working at the Two Dot Ranch in Cody, WY.  In addition to ranching full time, he also did outfitting. After returning to Wisconsin, while farming on the family farm, Gene was employed at Tractor Supply in Prairie du Chien for 10 years. He loved cutting wood with his family and friends, fencing, fishing, hunting, trapping, roping, along with breeding, raising, and riding his Quarter Horses. Gene was one of the five founders of the Youth Rodeo Incorporation and was a past member of the West-Grant Saddle Club. Gene’s unique sense of humor, quick wit, sixth sense, and his deep devotion to family, neighbors, and friends will be deeply missed.

Gene is survived by his dear friend and companion Co-Co Miller of Glen Haven, two children; Nicole “Nicky” (Tim) McDonald of Mineral Point and Katilee; step granddaughter Amanda (Andy) Dahlheimer and his step great-grandson Calon Dahlheimer; mother Erma Kirschbaum of Lancaster; five siblings; Darlene Schildgen of Glen Haven, Pat (Steve) Ploessl of Bloomington, Dan (Diane) Kirschbaum of Holmen, Lynn Kirschbaum (Ann Klossing) of Glen Haven, Neil (Janet) Kirschbaum of Cassville, and many cherished nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his father Norbert Kirschbaum, and his brother-in-law Roger Schildgen.

Honoring Gene’s request, there will be no formal services held. Memorials may be given in his loving memory to the Southwest Wisconsin High School Rodeo Association, or cards of sympathy may be mailed to the Larson Family Funeral Home at 925 10th St. Fennimore, WI 53809. Online condolences may be made atwww.larsonfuneralhomes.com.
