The MFL MarMac volleyball team picked up its first Upper Iowa Conference win last week, in a 3-0 sweep of Postville on Sept. 20.
The Bulldogs opened the game strong, with a dominant 25-12 first set win. Postville tried to even the match in set two, but MFL MarMac eked out a 25-23 victory. The Bulldogs then closed out the Pirates 25-17 in the final frame.
Sept. 22 presented another opportunity to earn a conference win, but visiting Clayton Ridge proved too much for MFL MarMac in a 3-0 loss. The Eagles took the first two sets by scores of 25-21, then rallied 27-25 in the third.
The Bulldogs closed out the week in a tournament at Decorah, where they went 1-2, according to the Iowa Go Bound website.
Host Decorah accounted for one of the losses. The Vikings cruised through the first set 21-4, followed by a 21-12 outcome in the second.
Riceville also defeated the Bulldogs handily, by scores of 21-9 and 21-11, before MFL MarMac was able to get in the win column against South Winneshiek. The Bulldogs opened with a 21-12 victory, then held off the Warriors 21-19 to take the game and avenge a UIC loss from the week prior.
No individual statistics were available for the Bulldogs at press time.
MFL MarMac’s schedule this week includes a non-conference match-up against Waukon on Sept. 26, then a Sept. 27 UIC game at Turkey Valley.
