The Central cross country team had one of its best meets of the season at South Winneshiek Oct. 4, as nearly every runner had their best or second best race of the season.

The varsity boys finished in eighth place with a score of 208, and were headlined by medalist Gavin Holst, who finished 14th with a career best 17:37. Teammate Collin Jaster was the next highest finisher in 53rd, followed by Carter Kruger in 89th, Tate Berns in 117th, Bryce Heller in 120th, Michael White in 121st and Declan Finley in 122nd.

Among that group, Kruger, Jaster, White and Finley all ran career best times, while Berns finished in a course best time.

The varsity girls team finished the meet third with a score of 91, led by medalists Hannah Asche and Jaydin Dettman. Asche finished the race second in a time of 20:38, and Dettman followed in third, running a course best 20:53. Delaney Scherf crossed in 30th, with Taylor Moser close behind in 34th. Coral Rork ran a career best to finish 45th.  Eva and Layla Embretson both ran career bests to finish 52nd and 67th, respectively, while teammate Reese Berns ran to 57th. Aspen Rork finished 75th, while Madylen Gregerson ran a course best for 78th and Alexis Thiese hit the line in 84th, also in a course best time. Rounding out the results were Ashlyn Scherf in 87th and Brooke Tieden in 109th.

The results set the team up well as they head into the Upper Iowa Conference meet at Tri City Golf Course in Luana on Oct. 13.
