Dale A. Check, 92 of Eastman, passed away suddenly on Oct. 10, 2022, due to complications from a heart attack.

He was born in Prairie du Chien, on Aug. 1, 1930, to parents Albert and Elizabeth (Butler) Check. He attended the Seven Mile School and later graduated from Prairie du Chien High School. Dale served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953, a Corporal in the 45th Infantry Division. He fought in the Korean Conflict and spent nine months blocking on the front line.

Dale married Ann Beverly DuCharme on Dec. 1, 1956, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Eastman. He was a lifelong area resident and spent the past 52 years on the Check Family Century Farm on DuCharme Ridge in Eastman. Dale was a man of faith who believed in hard work and helping others when he could. He was a farmer at heart, telling stories of farming with horses and how things were in years past. He loved a well-manicured lawn and his trucks and tractors shined with coats of Turtle Wax. His gardens provided to his extended family and beyond. In his younger years, Dale enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he was a master at both. He passed his legacy down to his children and grandchildren with many fond memories and great stories. Dale was honored to participate in the Freedom Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2016 and was touched to receive a Quilt of Valor in 2021. Dale appreciated a good meal and a cold beer or two. He was proud of his children and grandchildren and cherished time spent with his family and friends. Rest easy, Dad. We’ll make the coffee and do the chores.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Beverly; their children Debra Check, Dale Jr. “Skip”, Douglas, Daniel, Brian (Julie), Sara, and Amy Check; grandsons Matthew (Olya), Brandon, and William Check, and Julian DeGidio; great-grandchildren Brady and Bristol Check; his brother Roger Check; his in-laws Lorraine Richter, Jon and Joan DuCharme, Steve DuCharme, Marcia Feilbach, Mike, Jennifer, and Cheryl DuCharme; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, twin brother Dennis Check, siblings and their spouses, Francis and Lila Check, Mavis and Warren Godden; in-laws Joan Check, Martha and Walter DuCharme, Stosh DuCharme, Yvonne and Bill Hubbard, Bunny and Rodney (his best friend) Bartholomew and Billi and Dewey DuCharme.

A Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, Oct. 17, 2022, at 11 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Eastman, Rev. Rajendran Anandan officiating with burial in the church cemetery. Military honors were accorded graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Eastman Fire Dept., Eastman First Responders, or charity of choice.
