Four more dominant victories last week improved the MFL MarMac boys basketball team to a perfect 6-0. The Bulldogs outscored Edgewood-Colesburg, Turkey Valley, Postville and Kingsland, Minn., by a combined 322 points to 118.

The first win, a 97-22 rough up of Ed-Co on Dec. 5, included 46.4 percent field goal shooting for the Bulldogs and a 10-24 clip from behind the arc. MFL MarMac also won the rebounding category 40-21 and swiped 37 steals from the Vikings, who turned the ball over a whopping 51 times.

Sophomore Zach Driscoll shot over 61 percent from the field and drained three of five attempts from long range for a team-high 21 points. His stat line also included six steals, five rebounds and two assists.

Carver Blietz-Bentien chipped in 17 points, six rebounds, three steals and an assist, while Wyatt Powell hit double digits in both points—10—and steals—11. His six assists led all Bulldog players. Bryce Diehl added 11 points off the bench.

MFL MarMac followed that up with a resounding 70-27 win at Turkey Valley on Dec. 6. The team upped its field goal percentage to 56.4 and remained hot from three-point range, making six of 17 attempts. The Bulldog defense matched that offensive intensity with 19 steals and two blocks.

Driscoll again topped the stat sheet with 24 points, half of which came from threes. He was also among team leaders in rebounds, assists and steals, with six in each category.

Fellow sophomore Parker Kuehl hit two shots from behind the arc, contributing to his 16 points. He added four assists, two rebounds and two steals. Powell finished the night with nine points and three rebounds along with nine assists and seven steals—both team highs. Blietz-Bentien totaled eight points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Dec. 9 was a 91-31 victory for the Bulldogs, this time at Postville. Despite hitting just four three-pointers in this contest, MFL MarMac was 56.1 percent from the field and made 13 of 17 free throw attempts. The defense added another 28 steals to the season total as well as one block.

Not surprisingly, Driscoll was the team’s points leader. The sophomore was 10-11 from the field and a perfect 3-3 from long range for 23 points. His stat line included six steals, five assists and two rebounds as well.

Powell added 17 points and was a relentless defender with 12 steals. His five rebounds were tied for the most on the team that night and he had two assists. Hunter Meyer came away with 12 points, four rebounds, an assist and a steal, while Blietz-Bentien finished with eight points, five rebounds, three steals and an assist.

MFL MarMac played its closest game of the season Dec. 10, in what was still a 64-38 blowout of Kingsland in a Border Battle match-up in Decorah.

Driscoll racked up 21 points with another lethal showing from behind the arc. He also added four rebounds, three assists, three steals and one of the team’s two blocks.

Powell tallied 11 points, four steals, four assists and two rebounds, and Kuehl turned in 10 points, four assists and two rebounds. Along with five points, Blietz-Bentien had a team leading 10 rebounds.

The Bulldogs will play twice this week, at West Central on Dec. 13, then in Monona against North Fayette Valley on Dec. 16.
