MFL MarMac wrestler Kadence Pape continued her strong senior season last week, with two more first place finishes.

Pape took the top spot at 120 pounds at the Dec. 6 Go-Hawk Girls Invite at Waverly-Shell Rock, after winning all four of her matches by fall. She carried that momentum into the Dec. 9 South Winn Girls Wrestling Tournament, where she won three more. The championship bout was a rematch from earlier in the week, as she again defeated Brinley Meier of Waverly-Shell Rock, this time by 4-2 decision.

Bulldog sophomores Mackenzie Bachman and Audrey Ruff also placed at both competitions last week.

Bachman was fifth at 140 pounds in the Go-Hawk Invite, after following up a quarterfinal loss with falls in the following three matches. Her pin in the fifth place match came in just 13 seconds against Keira Myers of New Hampton/Turkey Valley. On Dec. 9, Bachman improved her placing to third in a 3-1 night, with her only loss coming in the semifinals.

Ruff placed eighth at the Go-Hawk Invite, following a 1-3 showing at 155 pounds, then fifth at South Winn. She went 3-2 there, rebounding from an opening round fall to win a tie breaker and then pin her opponent in the consolation rounds. Although she lost again in the consolation semis, Ruff came out on top in the fifth place match after Postville’s Kimberly Perez bowed out due to medical forfeit.

Like Ruff, freshman Melody Grimm also came in eighth at Waverly-Shell Rock. She was pinned in each of her matches in the 125B bracket. Grimm did not place at the South Winn Tournament after going 0-2.

Junior Amelya Weigand, wrestling at 115 pounds, went 0-2 in both events last week. Freshman Danica Friedlein did not place at 145 pounds, after losing two tough matches in the Go-Hawk Invite and going 2-2 in the South Winn Tourney. Both victories came by fall.

The MFL MarMac girls have no competitions this week, according to the school calendar. They’ll be in action next at a tournament at St. Ansgar on Dec. 20.
