Shirley Jane Davies, 79, of Garber died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022, at Regional Medical Center in Manchester surrounded by family.

Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, 2022, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home in Guttenberg.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Guttenberg with burial in the church cemetery, conducted by Rev. Marvin Bries.

Shirley was born to Martin and Ellen Horstman (Petsche) on October 19, 1943 in McGregor.

Shirley graduated from Garnavillo High School in 1961. She married Mark Davies in Garber on June 8, 1974. After joined in marriage they purchased a farm in Millville. There they raised several animals and worked the farm. In addition to working endless hours on the farm she worked at Ertl’s in Dyersville for numerous years until their closing, at which time she went into healthcare where she worked at different nursing facilities in housekeeping.

Shirley’s pride and joy were her daughter and her grandchildren. Shirley was one who always had to be busy doing something. If she was not outside taking care of her yard, or flowers, she could be found doing activities with her family. She was not one to sit still for longer than a few minutes. Getting up late was time wasted during the day that something could be getting done. In her later years she enjoyed watching events that her grandchildren were in, rodeos, doing crossword puzzles, and playing Chuzzles. Shirley’s passion was her family, and she cherished all the time spent with her husband, daughter, and grandchildren. She would always say to call day or night.

Shirley entered heaven leaving behind her husband, Mark Davies; her daughter, Stacy Davies (Cody Schroeder); grandchildren, Trevor, Cayden, and Alexis, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Martin (Charlene) Horstman Jr., James Horstman, and Ramona (Scylvan) Bahls; niece, Cynthia Kriesler; in-laws, Hayden and Lois Davies; brothers-in-law, Walter Davies, and Ivan Hardt, and sisters-in-law, Suzanne Davies, and Judy Davies.

Always loved, forever missed, and never forgotten.
