Rosella (Rosie) P. Smrcina, 93, of Prairie du Chien, passed peacefully on Dec. 22, 2022, at Great River Care Center, McGregor, Iowa, with deer watching her through the window. Rosie was born the daughter of Peter and Alma (Olson) Severson in Mt. Sterling. Rosie attended school in Seneca and La Crosse Central and graduated from Prairie du Chien. She married John G. Smrcina on Dec. 12, 1947. She worked at Savory Cafe and as a cook at B.A. Kennedy and then became a full-time housewife, mother and caregiver for their middle son Gary. Rosie was an avid Packers fan and loved everything Elvis. Her family and friends meant everything to her, as did her faith.

Surviving Rosie is her son, Bruce Smrcina and daughter-in-law, Linda Smrcina; grandson, Troy (Alisha) Smrcina and granddaughter, Angela Henderson; great-grandchildren, Jocelyn, Hunter and Autumn Smrcina and Jayden and Lane Henderson, all of Prairie du Chien; brothers-in-law, Norman Johnson, Mt. Sterling and Robert (Roberta) Smrcina, Dubuque, Iowa; sister-in-law, Charlotte Smrcina, Tennyson;  and several nieces and nephews.  

Rosie was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sons, Ronald and Gary; sisters, Regis (Donald) Sime and Myrtle (Idor) Stovey; brothers, Vernon (Mary Ester) Severson and Donald (Doris) Severson; and several in-laws.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Prairie du Chien, with Rev. Miranda Klosterboer as the officaint. There will also be a visitation before services from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church on Thursday.

Burial will be held at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery, Prairie du Chien.

Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family with arrangements.

The family requests memorials to St. Peter Lutheran Church in lieu of flowers.
