Warrior wrestlers earn some victories for home crowd on senior night

In front of an amped up crowd for senior night, the Central boys wrestling team took to the mat for a UIC quad against Tripoli, South Winneshiek and Clayton Ridge.
The Warriors went into the duals fueled from the crowd, but also without consistent performer Daniel Royer, who recently suffered a leg injury. Despite the loss, the team finished 1-2 in the duals, while going 4-8 in matches.
In the dual against South Winneshiek, Central went 3-4 in matches while giving up five forfeits, losing 51-18. Braxton Bormann (120 pounds) earned a fall in just under four minutes, while Preston Kulper (126) needed just over five minutes to dispatch his opponent via pin. Nate Shirbroun (170) won his match by fall as well, while Nick Deitchler (132) suffered a close decision loss and Jonah Burns (106), Sam Fettkether (160) and Jacob Cook (195) were pinned.
The Warriors had a closer dual against Clayton Ridge, losing 33-24, but went 1-3 in matches. Both teams received three forfeit victories each. Shirbroun was the only winner with a fall, while Burns, Fettkether and Cook lost their respective matches.
The highlight for the Warriors came in the dual against Tripoli, which the Warriors won 30-18, going 1-1 in matches while being on the receiving end of five forfeit wins. Fettkether won his match via fall in less than two minutes, while Cook was pinned, accounting for the only two matches of the dual.
The team will head to Bellevue for a dual on Jan. 19, then compete in the John Byers Wrestling Invite at Midland High School on Jan. 21.
