Ethel A. Sebastian, age 95 of Prairie du Chien passed away peacefully Monday, January 16, 2023, at Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chien. She was born in Eastman, Wisc. on September 6, 1927, the sixth child of Edward and Anna (Mara) Slama. Ethel only went to school through the eighth grade but earned her GED many years later. Ethel married Robert Sebastian on September 6, 1947, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Eastman, WI. Together they raised their family in the Prairie du Chien and owned and operated the Fort Crawford Hotel in downtown Prairie du Chien for 17 years. Ethel also worked at the Courier Press for many years until her retirement in her mid-70’s. Ethel enjoyed ceramics, crocheting, crafts, cooking, and began reading voraciously during the last decade of her life.
 She is survived by her husband of 75 years Robert; their children Kathy (Steve) Strange of Shoemakersville, PA, Vicki Sebastian of Bridgeport, and Nancy (Mark) Sebastian Gokey of Salisbury, NC; her sister Marie Medenwaldt; her grandchildren Caitlin, Robert, Amanda Strange, Mackenzie, Delaney, and Reilly; and 3 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Ray, Cyril, Arnold, Wencil, Edward, and Amelia Quinn.
A Memorial Mass of Resurrection will be Friday, January 27, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating with burial in the Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service.
