The Central girls wrestling team is starting to put it all together, with several winners and high placements as they head into regionals this week.

The winning started at the Cougar Girls Scramble in Sumner-Fredericksburg, where the Warriors placed fifth out of eight teams and finished with an overall record of 12-8.

The highlights of the scramble were the performances of Reese Berns at 115 pounds and Taylor Moser at 125, as both wrestlers won their weight classes. Both Berns and Moser went 3-0 with three fall wins.

Rebecca Suhr took second place at 155 pounds, with two falls, and Tori Sylvester finished fourth at 120, accumulating a 1-2 record with one fall victory, a loss via fall and one by 8-2 decision.

Rounding out the results, Mayleigh Medberry finished fifth at 135 pounds and Maci Keppler placed sixth at 135.

The final meet of the regular season was the East Buchanan Girls Invitational, which ended with similar results for the team. The Warriors finished in fourth place, just one point out of third, and went 16-10 in actual matches.

Leading the pack were Berns and Moser, who both took home first place. Berns went 4-0 on the day, with one bye, two falls and an 11-4 decision to secure first place. Moser also went 4-0, with two falls and an 11-0 majority decision before taking first place with a pin.

Medberry was the next top performer, with a third-place finish. She went 2-1, with two falls, and the defeat came by an 8-0 majority decision. Sylvester was fourth, going 2-2, with all matches decided by fall. Keppler and R. Suhr both finished fifth, going a combined 4-3, and Kimberly Suhr wrestled to sixth place at 130 pounds.

Central will head to regionals at Luther College in Decorah this Friday, Jan. 27. Regionals will determine who qualifies for the state tournament, which will be held in Coralville Feb. 2-3.
