Marna A. Zlabek, age 82 of Prairie du Chien passed away Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chien. She was born in Springfield, IL on April 28, 1940, the daughter of Alva and Audrey (Ross) Harrelson. Marna moved with her family to Prairie du Chien when she was 7 years old. She graduated from Prairie du Chien High School with the class of 1958. She then obtained her business degree from Bayless College in Dubuque, IA. Marna married Dwaine Zlabek on October 28, 1961, at the United Methodist Church in Prairie du Chien. Together, they raised their daughter Rhona in Prairie du Chien. Marna worked at National Decorated Metals in Prairie du Chien before becoming the bookkeeper for Piggly Wiggly, where she stayed for many years. Later she worked at Walmart in the electronic department as well as many other roles when necessary. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church. Marna enjoyed sewing, bird watching, and tending to her plants. She also enjoyed playing cards at the Eagle’s Club in Prairie du Chien and traveling the country with her family. Marna had many dear friends in the community, particularly her neighbors Jim and Marilyn Faulkner whom were always eager to lend a helping hand. Above all, Marna loved her grandchildren tremendously; they were her life. Marna’s husband Dwaine preceded her in death on November 11, 2019. She is survived her daughter Rhona (Doug) Scheubel; her sister Lorene Chabela; her grandchildren Audrey (Michael) Andrews, Beau Harker, and Carly Zlabek-Schuebel; her great-grandchildren Connor and Zoe Andrews; her nieces Cindy (Keith) Ahlers, Dina (Mike) Baas, and Annie (Tony) Van Der Zwaag, and nephew Bradley Chabela; and her siblings-in-law Dennis (Connie) Zlabek and their children Jonathon and Catherine Zlabek, and Jennifer Matthews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers in law, Charles Chabela and Richard Zlabek, and her sister in law, Noreen Jellen.

A graveside service will be held on Marna’s birthday, Friday, April 28, 2023 in the Greenhill Cemetery in Edgewood, IA. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family. www.garrityfuneralhome.com
