The Clayton County Energy District will host an Energy Burden Relief Open House & Listening Post on Friday, Feb. 17, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Keystone AEA, 1400 Second Street NW, in Elkader.

The event will showcase local clean energy success stories, provide opportunities to speak with energy experts and clean energy contractors, and share resources available to relieve energy burdens (i.e., utility rebates, major Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) cash incentives, 30% solar and heat pump tax credits, and more).

Attendees can also receive help calculating their energy burdens and their personal IRA benefit and find out about local clean energy jobs.

Local leaders and decision-makers are invited to learn more about Clayton County’s energy burden problem. Some 400 county households spend more than 20% of their income on home energy costs.

“Our goal is to begin connecting the severely energy-burdened residents, local leaders, and elected officials to beneficial electrification and locally owned renewable energy programs, especially the amazing promise in the Inflation Reduction Act programs," said Joleen Jansen, CCED Program Director.

"We want to build relationships with locals who endure massive energy burdens by listening to their stories and helping them calculate their energy burden rate. In addition, local leaders and elected officials will witness the energy district’s effort and mission and have time to visit with clean energy folks plus visit with their energy burdened constituents,” said Jansen.

The following experts and organizations have been invited to table at the Energy Burden Relief Open House:

•Iowa Geothermal Association

•Alliant Energy

•Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission

•Clean Energy Districts of Iowa

•Allamakee Clayton REC

•McGregor Municipal Utility

•Northeast Iowa Community Action

•Midwest Building Decarbonization Coalition

•Iowa Solar Trade Association

•Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance

•Iowa Works

•Northeast Iowa Community College

•The CCED Contractor Network Member Vendor Fair

Clayton County Energy District staff and board members will be on hand to listen to fellow community members about their energy burdens and how clean energy solutions have or might play a role in their story.

Local leaders and interested community members should plan to attend at any time from 10-2 on Friday, Feb 17, at the Keystone AEA in Elkader.
