Ronald Berry Hinzman, 86, of Graham left this world to reunite with his family who passed before him on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, from MercyOne Hospital of Dubuque.

Visitation was Friday, March 31, at the Morris Funeral Home in Guttenberg.

Funeral services were Saturday, April 1, at the funeral home.

Burial was in Bolsinger Cemetery, Colesburg.

Ron was born Oct. 3, 1936, in Quincy, Ill., the son of Frank Hinzman and Patricia (nee Berry) Hinzman. A younger sister, Lori, would later complete this family. Ron’s dad worked on the Lock and Dams along the Mississippi River but would eventually settle in Guttenberg, where Ron would finish his schooling and graduate from Guttenberg High School in 1955. Ron immediately joined the Navy and served his country from 1955 to 1959. After his service in the Navy, Ron returned to Guttenberg where on Oct. 1, 1960, he married the love of his life, Betty Radabaugh.

Ronnie’s smile would light up the room especially when talking about his family and accomplishments of his grandkids. You could guarantee if Ronnie was at any family event that he would have a camera recording the moment whether or not the family wanted their pictures taken or not! A life-long lover of music, he spent many happy moments listening to country music and attending local fairs and bluegrass festivals. He was a wonderful dancer and spent many a weekend attending the dances with Betty at the Elkport Hall or other local venues. He also loved trains and going to toy shows to find a new piece for his collection. Always willing to lend a hand, he could frequently be found helping with projects at the homes of his daughters or lending assistance to his Graham neighbors. He also loved helping out at the Plagman barn with the school tours as long as he was physically able to. His biggest honor came in 2017 going on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C., with his son-in-law, Paul Ling.

Those left to cherish Ron’s memory include his wife of 62 years, Betty; his daughters, Cindy (Paul) Ling, Cheryl (Danny) Williams and Michelle (Pete Elliot) Hinzman; grandchildren, Amber (Casey) Hansen, Nicholas Ling, Justin Williams, Jason Williams and grand-dog, Emmylou and great-grandson, Flynn Hansen. Ron is also survived by his sister, Lori (Robert) Radabaugh Jr.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
