Despite a stretch of less-than-ideal weather, the MFL MarMac girls track and field team was still able to work in meets at Crestwood and Kee last week.

The relays again proved to be strong points for the Bulldogs in the April 18 meet at Crestwood. The team was fifth in the sprint medley, turned in a pair of sixth-place finishes in the 4x100 and distance medley, then was seventh in the 4x200.

Emma Koether turned one of the top times for an MFL MarMac individual runner, placing seventh in the 800 in 3:06.33. Audrey Ruff crossed the line in 7:54.8 in the 1500, which was good for 10th.

Melanie Ruff used a time of 14.72 seconds to earn seventh in the 100. Maria Stavroplus finished 13th in the 200 and Bayleigh Wood 13th in the 400.

Stavroplus was the team’s lone field competitor that day. The results listed her sixth in the high jump, after clearing a height of 4-04 feet.

On April 20, the Bulldogs headed to the Gary Bottorf Invite at Kee, where they placed fifth as a team with 18 points. Waukon topped the leaderboard with 145.

Koether shined in the distance races, improving her 800 time to 2:58.78, which was good for third place. She did a spot better in the 1500, and teammate Audrey Ruff placed fourth.

The sprints were highlighted by a sixth-place time of 14.87 seconds for Melanie Ruff in the 100. Ariana Fish claimed 12th in the event. Evelyn Ruff and Stavroplus were a respective ninth and 12th in the 200, and Wood snagged ninth in the 400.

In the relays, MFL MarMac performed best in the 4x200, as Evelyn Ruff, Wood, Audrey Ruff and Stavroplus combined for a fourth-place effort of 2:30.32. Evelyn Ruff, Fish, Stavroplus and Melanie Ruff were fifth in the 4x100.

Stavroplus continued to do well in the high jump, hitting a height of 4-06 feet for third place. Wood and Fish were a respective ninth and 10th in the long jump, while Brooklyn Tonn rounded out the field events by placing 10th in the shot put and 12th in the discus.

On tap this week for the Bulldogs is the Clayton Ridge Co-ed Invite on April 25, then the MFL MarMac Girls Invite on April 27.
