Bring mom to McGregor and Marquette May 12-14
The McGregor-Marquette Chamber of Commerce invites you to “Bring Mom to McGregor/Marquette” between May 12 and 14, in honor of Mother’s Day May 14. The weekend fun is to honor mom, but open to everyone.
A special three-day punch card promotion features sales, events, a selfie station and prizes to win. Fill your punch card by attending an event on Saturday, May 13, for two punches per event, or shopping with one of 20 participating businesses.
Participating businesses are from Prairie du Chien, McGregor and Marquette. Cards should be left in store when complete to be entered in a drawing for prizes, including chamber bucks.
On Friday, May 12, kick off the weekend with the chamber’s first Hard Hat Happy Hour at Backwoods Bar and Grill from 4 to 6 p.m. This will be the first “cash mob” event. A cash mob is a way for people to gather and support a local business while having a fun social time. Go to the chamber of commerce Facebook page, “Visit McGregor-Marquette, Iowa,” and join the “Chamber Cash Mob” group to get updates on future gathering dates and locations throughout the year.
Each event you attend on Saturday, May 13 counts for two punches on your card. Events include Basic Yoga from 10 to 10:45 a.m. and Chair Yoga from 11 to 11:45 a.m., at the Marquette Community Center, 102 North St. Classes will be led by instructor Joan Burns and are open to everyone regardless of experience and are free of cost. Learn how to focus your breathing with movement. Be sure to dress comfortably and bring either a towel, yoga mat or blanket. Participants will need to sign a simple waiver.
The Paper Moon, 206 A St., in McGregor, presents The Incredible You Parade from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Come dressed in your silliest wig, costume or any outfit that makes you shine and be ready for fun. This free event is open to all ages and genders. The parade is based on the book “Incredible You.”
If you’d like to get growing with mom, come to the chamber’s Plant Swap and Sale from noon to 2 p.m. at the Marquette Community Center. Bring an indoor or outdoor plant and do a free trade with others. Donations of plants are accepted in advance by contacting the chamber office at (563) 873-2186. Remember to put starters in something inexpensive for trading purposes. Seeds are welcome also. Purchased plants will be $5 each, with any proceeds going to the McGregor-Marquette Chamber of Commerce.
Give back to Mom and those who’ve shown you motherly love on Sunday. Take her out to eat and find your last-minute special gift. Be sure to fill out your contact info before leaving your punch card in store to be entered in the drawing.
