Indigo Sky Massage has a new home at 132 North St., in downtown Marquette. Licensed massage therapists Kelli Boylen and Katie Miller, both of whom have 11 years of experience, were previously located across the river in Prairie du Chien.

“I practiced in Prairie and McGregor for six years, and then I’ve been in just Prairie for about five. I was looking for a new location. I really wanted to be on the Iowa side of the river,” said Boylen. “I’ve always loved Marquette and McGregor. I love the sense of community. And there are a lot of things happening here right now. The Schoolhouse Mall, new owners of the winery, the casino, a new chamber director. That’s a lot of cool stuff, and it’s fun to be part of it.”

Miller, who is from Garnavillo, joined Boylen in September. Indigo Sky is running a grand re-opening special of discounted sessions through the end of this week to help Miller build her clientele.

Together, the two offer basic relaxation, therapeutic massage as well as deep tissue, hot stone, pregnancy and sports massage. Indigo Sky also has reiki and healing touch, myofascial release, craniosacral and reflexology/foot massage in addition to combination sessions.

“We compliment each other’s skill set,” Boylen said. “The two of us are a pretty good team, and we’re able to offer a lot of availability. Her and I are alternating Mondays and Saturdays, so we’re really here usually six days a week, and she offers evening appointments as well.”

Indigo Sky also has online scheduling.

“So if you’re like me and think of those things at 11 at night, you can go ahead and schedule an appointment,” Boylen joked.

Indigo Sky will hold an open house this Wednesday, May 3, from 4 to 6 p.m. People are invited to check out the location, which has been converted from an open space into three treatment/session rooms, a waiting area and office/laundry.

Boylen was excited to create the space the way she wanted it. The owners even let her paint the front door purple.

“I was looking for a calming vibe,” she said. “I’m really happy with the way it’s all come together. And I’m actually looking for a renter for the third room. If I could get another wellness practitioner or someone just looking for office space, that would be awesome.”

Through 11.5 years doing massage, Boylen has thousands of hours of hands-on experience. It’s crazy to think of, she said.

“If you’d told me even a year or two before I went back to school for massage that I was going to have a job touching people, I would have said, ‘No. That’s never going to happen.’ I thoroughly love my work, and it’s been rewarding,” Boylen shared.

She often jokes she should take before and after photos of clients, to show just how helpful massage can be. After all, people are not “human doings.” They are “human beings,” she stressed.

“It’s important to just be once in a while and not just go, go, go all the time,” Boylen said. “A lot of people have the idea in their head that self care is selfish, but really we need to take care of ourselves before we can take care of other people. This can be a very important part of wellness. The vast majority of our clients come in monthly, and that’s been wonderful.”
