The MFL MarMac boys golf team added two more Upper Iowa Conference wins—one against Turkey Valley and another over Postville—to its record last week. That put the Bulldogs at 19-5 heading into the May 8 UIC conference meet and May 10 Class 2A sectional at New Hampton.
MFL MarMac earned a resounding 164-192 victory over the Trojans at Tri City Golf Course on May 1. Sophomore Ben Krambeer was the meet medalist with a 40, and teammates Joe Grau and Nick Krambeer each shot 41s to share second place. Quinn McGeough followed in fourth with a 42.
Turkey Valley’s top golfer, Oliver Schmitt, completed nine holes with a 46 and ranked fifth along with Bulldog Sawyer Keehner. Jonah Wille rounded out MFL MarMac’s varsity scores with a 51, which put him 10th.
On May 4, the Bulldogs set a new team low score of 155 to beat Postville, which totaled 226. MFL MarMac accounted for all six of the top individual scores, including 37s from Grau and Ben Krambeer. McGeough also broke into the 30s with a 39. Wille shot a 42 to place fourth, while Nick Krambeer and Keehner tied for fifth with scores of 45.
The Bulldogs head into the conference and sectional meets with the best nine-hole average in the UIC, outpacing South Winneshiek 160.67 to 176.44. The four best individual nine-hole averages also belong to MFL MarMac. Ben Krambeer ranks first at 39.44, followed by Grau at 40.33, Nick Krambeer at 40.67 and McGeough at 41.
