It’s been a tough spring for the Central golfers, with the boys team sitting at 1-10, while the girls are 2-5 heading into this week’s Upper Iowa Conference meet.

The Warrior boys dropped both matches last week, starting with a 177-211 loss to Clayton Ridge at the Guttenberg Golf & Country Club. No individual stats were available for this match.

The second meet was on the home course at the Elkader Golf & Country Club, where Central lost to South Winneshiek 174-205.

The Warriors were led by Isaac Wellendorf, who shot a 47 and finished tied for fifth, four strokes behind the medalist from South Winn. Brock Eglseder was the only other golfer to shoot below 50, carding a 49 and finishing seventh. Two more Warriors finished inside the top 10, including Max Fettkether who shot a 54 and placed ninth, while Marcus Evans hit the club house with a 55, which was good for 10th. Keaton Klingman and Isaac Loan tied for 11th, after both shot a 59, and Mark Hertrampf was 13th with a 73.

The boys traveled to Big Rock Country Club on May 8 for the UIC conference meet. They’ll compete at sectionals on May 10.

The girls were also at the Guttenberg Golf & Country Club against Clayton Ridge last week, and put together a competitive round, losing by just five strokes in the team competition. The Eagles finished with a 248, while the Warriors shot 253. No individual stats were available for this match.

In the next match at the home course, the girls suffered another close loss, this time by seven strokes to South Winneshiek, who put up a 233 compared to Central’s 240.

Haley Frieden finished second after shooting a 50, one stroke off the medalist. Caitlyn Druecker put up a 59 to finish fourth. Following them were Maddie Schmidt in sixth with a 65, Makayla Erickson in seventh with a 66 and Jillian Finley shot a 74 to finish 10th. Macie Winters carded an 83 to finish 12th.

The girls were at Tri City Golf Course near Luana on May 9 for their Upper Iowa Conference meet. Regionals will follow on May 12.
