Wauzeka softball wins twice, prepares for tough postseason road ahead

Wauzeka-Steuben softball traveled to Fennimore on Tuesday, May 2 to take on the Golden Eagles in non-conference action. The host Golden Eagles came away with 7-0 win. The loss dropped the Hornets to a 10-3 record on the season
The Hornets returned home to host Belmont on Thursday, May 4. Belmont came away that night with a 5-1 victory over Wauzeka-Steuben.
On Friday, May 5, Ally Wall took the center circle against Ithaca and threw all 7 innings, giving up 3 runs (0 ER), on 2 hits, while walking 7 and striking out 9 on the night.
Wall also was 1-1 at the dish with her only hit off the night being a moonshot home run to straight away center field in the first inning that drove in 3 runs. She was also intentionally walked 3 times on the night.
Also having solid games at the plate for the Hornets were Emma Wall (2-for-2 with a double, a walk, 1 RBI, and two runs scored), Madison Walz (3-for-4 with a double and one run scored), and Morgan Berger (2-4 with a double, and 3 RBIs).
The Hornets followed that victory up with another conference win on Monday, May 8 at Kickapoo. Wauzkea-Steuben won 8-0 to improve to 12-4 overall on the season and 10-0 in the Ridge & Valley Conference.
Next up for the Hornets was a home showdown vs. Seneca on Thursday, May 11, the rematch between the two teams the very next day on Friday, May 12, a make-up game at Weston on Saturday, May 13 and the regular-season finale at La Farge on Monday, May 15. Due to space issues this week, look for a recap on these games in next week's paper.
The Hornets begin postseason play on Tuesday, May 23 as the number 4 seed in their regional group. The Horenst will host fifth seed Pecatonica with the winner advancing to play Highland, the number one seed in the grouping.
