Potosi/Cassville stops Seneca-Wauzeka-Steuben in season opener

The Seneca-Wauzeka-Steuben Blue-Golds football opened the 2023 season on Friday, August 18 hosting non-conference foe Potosi/Cassville looking to avenge last year’s 34-6 season-opening defeat in Potosi.
The Chieftains scored on a 66-yard touchdown run by Eli Adams with 5:52 left in the first quarter but missed the extra point to take a 6-0 lead.
The Blue-Golds were unable to match the Chieftains touchdown with one of their own on offense but the defense was able to keep it a one-score game until late in the second quarter when Potosi/Cassville added another long touchdown run by Adams plus the two-point conversion to increase their lead to 14-0. The Chieftains quickly added a second touchdown and converted the two-point conversion with 35 seconds remaining in the first half to take a 22-0 halftime lead.
The Blue-Golds were unable to cut into that deficit in the second half, while Potosi/Cassville added two second-half touchdowns, with Adams collecting his third rushing touchdown of the game on his way to a 136 yard rushing performance on 8 carries as the Chieftains shutout the Blue-Golds 35-0.
Next up for Seneca-Wauzeka-Steuben is an away game at River Ridge on Friday, August 25. River Ridge, like Potosi/Cassville, is a future Six Rivers Conference opponent for the Blue-Golds thanks to WIAA’s two-year football conference realignment plan set to be implemented in 2024.
