Seneca Volleyball starts season with win at La Farge, split matches at Kickapoo before winning annual Seneca Classic

The Seneca Royals volleyball team started their 2023 season on Tuesday, Sept. 5 with a trip to La Farge and come back with a three-set sweep of La Farge/Youth Initiative (25-12, 25-8, 25-10).

Next up for the Royals was jaunt up to Viola on Thursday, Sept. 7 to Kickapoo High School for their first conference quad meet of the season, facing Ithaca and North Crawford. First up was Ithaca, and the Bulldogs swept the Royals in three hard fought sets (25-20, 25-22, 25-20). Seneca responded by sweeping North Crawford in three-sets (25-23, 25-13, 25-20) to close out the night.

Seneca hosted their forty-first annual Seneca Classic on Saturday, Sept. 9 with Boscobel, Brookwood, Cassville, De Soto, Ithaca, and Seneca’s JV team participating.

First up for the Royals varsity squad was Boscobel, in which the Royals dispatched the Bulldogs in two sets (25-19, 25-22). Next up was De Soto, who the Royals dispatched 2 sets to 1 (15-25, 25-15, 17-15). Finally for the Royals it was Ithaca, who had just beaten the Royals in conference play two days earlier. However, this time it went the Royals way as they won the match to win claim the Seneca Classic Championship.

Following the weekend tournament was a conference match at De Soto on Tuesday, Sept. 12, which the Royals won 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-21). Seneca hosted Kickapoo on Thursday, Sept. 14, before competing in the Iowa-Grant Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 16. Results for those  matches were not available as of press time.

Next up for Seneca after a home match with North Crawford on Tuesday Night, is a trip to Cazenovia to take on Weston on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 7:15 p.m.
