Lady Bulldogs on mat for first time this season

The MFL MarMac women’s wrestling team kicked off its season Nov. 18, in a tournament at Decorah. The Bulldogs compiled 67 team points, placing eighth in a 16-team field.
Junior and returning state qualifier Mackenzie Bachman placed second in the 125-pound bracket, her only loss coming by fall in the first-place match. After a first-round bye, she pinned three straight opponents to advance to the finals.
Kennedy Bachman scored a third-place result at 100 pounds. After winning her quarterfinal match, Bachman was pinned in the semifinals, but rebounded to win both the consolation semifinal and third-place bouts.
Kaylee Baker added on to the team points by placing fifth at 145 pounds. Baker lost her opening match by fall, but added two pins of her own in consolation rounds one and two to make it to the consolation semifinals, where she lost by fall. She sealed fifth place with a pin.
At 130 pounds, Amelya Weigand did not place, but closed the tournament with a solid 2-2 record. Both victories came via fall.
MFL MarMac’s fifth competitor, Baileigh Wood, did not place after going 0-2 in her matches.
The Bulldogs won’t be back on the mat again until Dec. 5, in a tournament at Waverly-Shell Rock. They will also compete in the South Winn tournament at Luther College on Dec. 8.
