Richard John Hamann, age 75 of Prairie du Chien passed away Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, at Lakeview Health Care Center in West Salem, WI.  Rick was born to Stanley and Leona (Irwin) Hamann on June 7, 1948.  

He graduated from high school in Prairie du Chien in 1966.  He graduated from UWL with a double major in 1970.  After graduating college, he worked for a time at W.T. Grant in Madison, WI.  He met Patty Gilbertson at that time.  

They married in 1972 and moved to Prairie du Chien to work at Hamann’s Variety Store.  They took over the business and closed it in October 2009. Rick was dealing with Parkinson’s Disease for seven years at that time.  Rick and Patty were able to travel before his disease took over.  He entered a care facility on November 7, 2018.  In March 2019, he was in Bethel Oaks, a memory care facility where he received wonderful care.  He entered Lakeview Health Center on Oct. 30, 2019.  The facility and staff took excellent care and showed such love.  

Rick was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He was blessed with Ron Smrcina and the Smrcina family.  They enabled him to enjoy hunting and fishing for a longer time.  Rick is survived by his wife Patty, a sister Jan (George) Collins, an Aunt Pat (Jimmy) Englebright, and several relatives.  He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Funeral Services will be Monday, Jan. 29, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pastors Hillary Burns-Kite and Miranda Klosterboer concelebrating with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien.  Friends may call the Garrity Funeral Home on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2024, from 5-8 p.m. and also at the church on Monday one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien or Lakeview Health Center in West Salem, WI. www.garrityfuneralhome.com.
