Caleb Crocker of Guttenberg was recently presented with the Iowa Governor's Lifesaving Award for his actions during a fire at a residential group home in Guttenberg in December 2022.

On the evening of Dec. 1, 2022, Emergency Response Teams responded to a fire at a home owned by Imagine the Possibilities, Inc.

"With great discernment and bravery, Caleb Crocker, the employee on duty at the time, safely evacuated every individual from the home," said a spokesperson for Imagine the Possibilities. "One year later, we celebrate Caleb as he receives the Iowa Governor’s Lifesaving Award for his heroic actions. Because of his swift thinking and care for the people we serve, what could have been a deadly encounter ended in lifesaving action."

The award was presented to Caleb at the Governor’s lifesaving Award & Sullivan Brothers Award of Valor ceremony on Dec. 18, 2023, at the State Capitol Rotunda in Des Moines.

"Today, Imagine the Possibilities remains thankful that no residents or on-duty employees were injured," said the spokesperson. "Unfortunately, the catastrophic event resulted in total structural loss. This location, like many others across the state of Iowa, was home to the individuals Imagine the Possibilities serves in the area."

Imagine the Possibilities is a nonprofit organization that serves individuals with disabilities across the state of Iowa. As an organization, Imagine the Possibilities is on mission to empower people to reach individual achievement across the spectrum of life. This is done through equipping people with the skills and opportunities necessary for success.

"The past year has been a time of rebuilding that sense of home for these individuals, and we are pleased to report that a new home is close to completion for this community of people. Agency leadership continues to express profound gratitude to all fire personnel and first responders involved in the incident. Imagine the Possibilities is especially thankful for the community support received for the residents of the home, their families, and our team," concluded the spokesperson.
