Visitation was Sunday, Sept. 1, at Morris Funeral Home in Guttenberg.

Private graveside services were Monday, Sept. 2, at Mount Harmony Cemetery in Garber.

Jean was born the daughter of Floyd and Bertha (Willie) Williams on Feb. 10, 1937, at the home farm in Elkport.

Jean received her education from schools in Elkport, Garnavillo, and Elkader. While attending high school in Garnavillo, she was a member of the Candy Kids Basketball Team, who played in the State Championship Game. Jean graduated in 1954 from Elkader High School. After graduation, she worked at Muters Co. in Guttenberg.

Jean was united in marriage to Leonard Morarend on Feb. 2, 1957, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elkport. They raised their three children, Pamela, Joleen, and Allen, on the family farm near Osterdock.

Jean worked side by side with her husband on the farm, taking care of livestock, harvesting field crops and garden produce, and selling eggs. Jean loved to dance. She enjoyed listening to the local bands. She decorated cakes, enjoyed taking road trips, and attending different county fairs and the State Fair. She liked playing Euchre, Rummy, and Bingo. She loved nature, mushroom hunting, picking wildflowers, and seeing deer. She loved to try new recipes and revise the old ones. Her pies were delicious. Jean taught her grandkids how to crack open the eggs and make her homemade pancakes. She deeply loved her family.

Jean is survived by her children, Pamela (Phillip) Schaffer, Joleen (Lonnie) Beatty, and Allen Morarend; grandchildren, Melody (David) Voelker, Timothy (Valerie) Schaffer, Dustin (Michelle) Schaffer, Gregory (Stephanie) Beatty, and Hunter Beatty; great-grandchildren, Logan, Katie, Derek, and Mason Voelker, Josie Schaffer, and Beau and Brigham Beatty; sister, Gerry Williams; brothers-in-law, LaVern Wiskus and Bill Morarend; a special friend, Marge Taylor, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard in 2007; her parents; brothers, Marvin (Bernice) Williams, Ray (Shirley) Williams, Ivan Williams, Julius Williams; sisters, LaVera (Bud) Schenke, Irene (Glen) Gleason, and Faye Wiskus.

Jean was great at making those around her enjoy the little things in life and will be dearly missed by many.
