Paul L. Barnhart
Paul L. Barnhart, 93, of Garnavillo, formerly of Guttenberg, passed away at the Guttenberg Care Center on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Paul was born on Jan. 22, 1931, in Osterdock. He was the son of Clifford and Bertha (Nokleby) Barnhart. On Feb. 24, 1951, Paul married the love of his life of 73 years, Wilma Ziegler, in Guttenberg.
Paul worked for John Deere Company in Dubuque for nearly 20 years. Paul also farmed and loved working the land. Paul’s farm was located near the Ceres Church between Garnavillo and Guttenberg. Paul had many carpentry skills, and he put those to use transforming his farm into a beautiful showplace that was enjoyed by the many motorists passing through. Later in life, Paul built two cabins near his farm, and he was very proud of this accomplishment. Paul and Wilma enjoyed dancing, bus trips, and the good things of life. Paul was an interesting conversationalist and always gave his time and a cold Pepsi to anyone that stopped by.
Paul is survived by his wife, Wilma of Guttenberg; his daughter, Sue (Alan) Hoeger; a sister, Donna Mae Aude, of Clinton, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Art, Duane, and Donald (in infancy).
The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Guttenberg Care Center and St. Croix Hospice for the love and support they showed Paul while he was in their care.
