PdC Volleyball earns win over River Valley
By Derick Kelly
The Prairie du Chien Volleyball team entered their Southwest Wisconsin Conference opening match last Thursday night looking to make some noise in SWC play.
And make some noise they did as the Hawks defeated the River Valley Blackhawks 3 sets to 2 to earn the Hawks first home win over River Valley since Sept. 11, 1984.
Prairie won the first set 25-23 before River Valley responded with a 25-14 win to even the match up at 1-1. The Hawks recovered in the third set with a 25-15 win to go up 2 sets to 1.
River Valley then showcased why they have been so difficult to defeat over the years by winning the fourth set 25-22 to send the match to a fifth and final set.
The set went back-and-fourth with each side holding a leading multiple times during the set before the Hawks managed to hold off the Blackhawks 15-13 to win the match.
The win improved the Hawks record to 1-1 on the season and 1-0 in the SWC. Along with the win in 1984, the victory marks just the fourth time in program history (1979 and 1982 being the other two victories) that Prairie du Chien has defeated River Valley at home.
Next up for Prairie du Chien is a home match against Dodgeville on Thursday night. They then travel to Prairie du Sac on Saturday for the Sauk Prairie Invitational.
