Rose E. Kann, 76, of Guttenberg passed away Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, at Tower Living Center in Garnavillo.

Visitation was Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Morris Funeral Home in Guttenberg.

Private inurnment was Thursday, Sept. 19.

Rose was born April 3, 1948, in Anamosa, the daughter of Woodrow and Georgia (Duffy) Coppess.

Rose grew up in Oxford Junction surrounded by her family, which included eight siblings. After graduating from Oxford Junction High School in 1966, Rose continued her education at Mount St. Clare college and moved on to graduate from the University of Iowa, earning honors from each school. Rose’s first job brought her to Guttenberg as a teacher at St. Mary’s Catholic school.

This move led her to the love of her life, and she was united in marriage to Dirk C. Kann on Jan. 15, 1972. Following their marriage, Rose worked with Dirk at the family business, Kann Manufacturing. After the birth of their daughter Susan, Rose made the decision to be at home with her, and they welcomed their son William three years later.

Once the kids were a little older, Rose kept busy working part-time at Front Street Fashions. Dirk and Rose later took on a project that would become the Landing 615 Hotel. They remodeled and operated the hotel and boat docks, with Rose spearheading the hotel side of the business. She continued this role until the early 2000’s, when it was sold to Jamie Gamerdinger, a close family friend and the main contractor on the entire project. After Dirk’s passing, she carried on Kann Manufacturing, which her children operate today.

Rose and Dirk enjoyed good food, good wine, great friends and a lot of travel in their time together. These remained her favorite things, while adding an increased love of shopping, and maybe a little gambling as well - enough that she spent many winters in Las Vegas and loved every minute of it.

Her grandchildren brought her the most joy and the most laughs, and she cherished every moment with them.

Survivors include her children, Susan (Dustin Rodenberg) Kann, and William (Hillary) Kann; grandchildren, Chase and Ali Kann; sisters, Lois (Jim) Baresel and Peggy (Dave) Pringle; brothers, Thomas (Mike Koch) Coppess, Steven (Linda) Coppess, and Phillip (Loretta) Coppess; sisters-in-law, Donna (Mark) Gibson and Darla Coppess; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; siblings, Larry Coppess, Linda Schaefer, and Mary Simonsen; in-laws, Harold and Dorothy Kann; sister-in-law, Marjorie and her husband, Robert Lake; and partner in crime, Toni Schuster.
